Jeff Shoup, one of the developers of the failed Bahama Island condominium project, could have his bond revoked in a federal bank fraud case following his arrest Wednesday in Surfside Beach. Shoup, 44, was arrested and charged with driving under suspension, drinking in public and public intoxication. He remained at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday night and no bail had been set

Malicious damage | On Tuesday in Conway, officers responded to a location they had been called to twice the night before. A 43-year-old woman said she and her sister had argued and her sister had her boyfriend cut the battery cord on the woman’s motorized wheelchair. The victim said she did not see anyone cut the cord, but she saw them on the wheelchair, which had been left outside the night before.

Everyone deals with the coming of a new year differently. Some say goodbye to the past while others only look to what’s ahead. This year, we asked area leaders to do both, as they reflect on the changes along the Grand Strand in the first decade of the new millennium and talk about what they want and predict for the start of the next decade. Surfside Beach Mayor Allen Deaton said the biggest changes he saw happened in Myrtle Beach.
